Erfurter Martinsfest

For the Martinsfest, thousands of children and adults gather with glowing lanterns on Erfurt's Domplatz (Cathedral Square). Against the backdrop of the cathedral and the Severikirche (Church of St Severus), an ecumenical St Martin's celebration is held in memory of Martin of Tours and Martin Luther. The event includes a Martinsspiel (St Martin's play) with a lantern procession as well as a Martinsmarkt selling Martinshörnchen (St Martin's pastries), lanterns and candles.
