On Rosensonntag (the Sunday before Ash Wednesday), the Erfurter Karnevalsumzug (carnival parade) moves with floats and walking groups from the Domplatz through the city centre and back again to the Domplatz. The colourful parade forms the highlight of Erfurt's Fastnacht (the pre-Lenten carnival season) and is free of charge for spectators.
