Weihnachtsbaden Westerland

On Boxing Day (the second day of Christmas), undaunted participants take part in the Weihnachtsbaden (Christmas bathing), plunging into the cold North Sea from the beach behind the Musikmuschel bandstand in Westerland, often in festive costume. The number of swimmers is limited; after this test of courage there is a warm shower, a certificate and a mulled wine voucher. Numerous spectators follow the wintry spectacle from the promenade.
