Following an old North Frisian custom, the Biikebrennen (traditional Frisian fire festival) bids farewell to winter and is part of Germany's intangible cultural heritage. In List, people meet at St Jürgen's church and walk with torches to the Biikeplatz, the bonfire site behind the Am Königshafen residential area, where the fire is lit. The evening traditionally ends with a communal meal of Grünkohl (kale).
