Biikebrennen Keitum

Biikebrennen (a traditional Frisian fire festival) is a North Frisian custom in which winter is seen off in the evening with a large fire; the tradition is part of Germany's intangible cultural heritage. In Keitum, participants gather at the fire station on C. P. Hansen-Allee and walk with burning torches to the Biikeplatz by the railway embankment. After speeches in German and Frisian, the Biike is lit.
