On the last evening of the year, locals and visitors gather at the Ammergauer Haus for the Sternrundgang, a star procession. Carrying a large portable star and accompanied by musicians and singers, the group moves through the village and sings old star carols (Sternlieder) at several stops. The custom has been documented in Oberammergau since the 18th century.
