Marburg by Night is the city's annual festival of lights, held during the darker part of the year since 2006. Historic buildings, squares, streets and bridges of the town centre are showcased with illuminations and video projections, complemented by light stagings and concerts in churches. The evening also opens the Christmas season and draws many thousands of visitors.
