The Easter Fires Pageant reenacts a German-Texan legend that explains bonfires seen on the hills around Fredericksburg on Easter Eve, tying the story to an 1847 peace treaty with the Comanche. Performed after dusk at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, it combines a costumed retelling of the legend with real hillside bonfires. The pageant has been staged since the 1930s as an expression of the town's German settler heritage.
