Carnaval Knotsenburg

During the carnival days, Nijmegen transforms into Knotsenburg, its carnival stronghold. The highlight is the Peeman Stadsoptocht, a parade of decorated floats, music and marching groups through the town centre. There are also the prince's reception and the Boerenbruiloft (a mock farmers' wedding); the celebrations run until Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday.
