The opening competition of the Vierschanzentournee (Four Hills Tournament) is held on the large hill of the Skisprung Arena (ski jumping arena) at the foot of the Schattenberg. As the first of four stops, Oberstdorf opens the internationally renowned ski jumping tournament. Tens of thousands of spectators come to the arena for the qualification and the competition.
