At the Viehscheid (ceremonial cattle drive from the alpine pastures), around 1,000 cattle return from the mountain pastures to the valley after the alpine summer. At the Nordic Zentrum in Ried, the decorated animals are handed back to their owners at the Scheidplatz in front of thousands of spectators. In the festival tent, brass music by the Musikkapelle Oberstdorf, Allgäu beer and Scheidwurst (a local sausage) create a festive atmosphere.
