The Silvesterlauf Hannover is a public fun run around the Maschsee, starting and finishing on the north shore by the Fackelträger. The main course measures around 5.8 kilometres; for children there are shorter runs over 600 and 1,200 metres. The event places importance on sustainability and does without fireworks.
