On the Tuesday afternoon of Fasnacht, the city centre belongs to the children. From 1 pm the trams stop running in the old town, and floats and chaises carry only children through areas such as Spiegelgasse, Marktgasse and Marktplatz, as well as in Kleinbasel. Costumed families and children's Cliquen give the cheerful proceedings their character.
