Note: the 2027 date is not yet officially confirmed – please check with the organiser before visiting.

Life on the Homestead is an annual open house at the Welk Homestead State Historic Site, birthplace of bandleader Lawrence Welk, celebrating the German-Russian farming traditions of the region. Visitors can watch sauerkraut-, butter-, and rope-making demonstrations, a vintage tractor show, and a musical tribute to the Welk family. The sod-roofed farmstead, where Welk grew up speaking a German dialect, is preserved by the State Historical Society of North Dakota as a museum.
