New Leipzig calls itself 'The Small Friendly German Town On The Dakota Prairie'; the 2000 census found 87.2% of residents were of German ancestry. The town, named after Leipzig, Germany, holds a two-day Oktoberfest on the first weekend of October. The exact 2026 date is inferred from this recurring pattern and was not separately confirmed by an organizer for this year.
