Wilhelm Tell Festival

New Glarus was founded in 1845 by Swiss immigrants from the canton of Glarus, and its streets still feature Swiss-style chalets. The Wilhelm Tell Festival, a pageant based on the Swiss legend of William Tell, has been presented by New Glarus residents on Labor Day weekend every year since 1938, with Swiss folk choirs, yodeling, alphorns and Swiss flag-throwing; it carries no German theme. Labor Day weekend 2027 falls on September 4-6, though organizers had not yet published the exact 2027 schedule at the time of research.
