Schmeckfest in Freeman is an annual 'festival of tasting' celebrating the heritage of Plautdietsch-speaking Mennonites from the Russian Empire who settled the area from the 1870s. Begun in 1959, it is held every spring at Freeman Academy alongside a musical theater production.
