The Ely Winter Festival is a ten-day celebration of winter built around an International Snow Sculpting Symposium, in which professional sculptors from around the world carve large blocks of snow into finished artworks in the small lakeside town of Ely. The festival also includes other outdoor winter activities during its run in early-to-mid February. It centers on the town's Northwoods winter-recreation identity and has no German or other ethnic-heritage theme.
