At the Zaate Hermeniekesconcours on Shrove Tuesday, the zaate hermeniekes, carnival-style brass bands, no longer compete only on the Vrijthof following a format change, but at eight stages across the city center (including Sint Pieterstraat, Graanmarkt, Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, Markt). At 16:30 the bands present themselves to the prince on the Vrijthof, where the Mestreechs Volkslied is played together to conclude.
