Vastelaovend (Limburg carnival) is the highlight of the Maastricht carnival and is celebrated over three days. Throughout the town centre, parades, the zaate hermeniekes (brass bands) and boisterous street carnival create the atmosphere. The Vrijthof and the Markt are the central locations.
